ROTTING FOLIAGE is a new black metal project born on the ashes of Mourner — an earlier and more melancholic band. ROTTING FOLIAGE was formed by Alexey ‘Gor’ and Nikolay ‘Saw’, well-known among the fans of the underground scene. Some time earlier these two joined their efforts to make doom metal music filled with sorrow and despair. However ROTTING FOLIAGE is not just about genre changing, it’s about evolution! While the gloomy atmosphere and depth characteristic of Mourner are still in place, the new project adds fury, dissonance and uncompromising grimness typical for black metal. It’s a soundscape plunging into the atmosphere of withering and decay. It’s a journey into the heart of the forest where life and death intertwine in their eternal dance. Opposite to Mourner, where the lyrics are focused on personal experience, ROTTING FOLIAGE addresses broader subjects: decay, paltriness, decline of civilizations and the triumph of nature over the human arrogance. The musicians understand black metal is a purely underground genre, and their band will hardly go mainstream, but this is not their primary concern. ROTTING FOLIAGE was formed to make music for those who understand and feel it, who dares to have a look into the face of darkness and perceive its beauty.
