Black metal has many faces, and when I listen to album like this one, I am not even sure if it is still black metal album. Insanis (Rus) songs have certainly a sound that is not typical for this kind of music ,the record has more death metal production, but barely death metal music, and the way I hear it, the music is a blend of many metal genres. Front-man of the band is a flexible, black metal vocalist, his scratching vocals are alike Vorph from THAT Swiss band, and his Russian accent make it all sound peculiar. Track Black Metal Marginals sounds a bit like Samael and Venom. I like the chorus in the song and instrumental offering that is going along with it. Already, the beginning of the record shows off that Insanis tries to find their ways of playing music with open mind. Innsmouth Hate is melodic black and death metal with some progressive (very little) guitar bits and pieces. Keziah Mason starts off almost like black-n-roll - melodic and catchy tunes sound impressive. Further on, glimpses of progressive metal with guitar harmonies and hard & heavy metal solos make a really good song. A few faster tempos and heavy, groovy guitars with melodic inclinations are all to find in track Wasted Sleep. Satanic Road Trip is experimental black and death metal song, however second half of the song totally rocks even without metal sound distortions. Fvkk The World... Fvkk You All is their most death metal song with melo-viking metal accretions and avant-garde black metal influences. Having in mind that Insanis mixes many metal genres with each other, songs do not lose their consistency and attractiveness (Midnight Blasphemers). Instrumental offering from the band (Circle II) are for those of you who are into prog-rock& harsh metal. You also can sense in the songs that they lean toward avant-garde metal, keeping it melodic, just not all the time. Bite It You Scum (GG Allin cover) sounds for me like a metal-punk song with just black metal vocals... I do not say it is great album, and in the end, it can all be labelled as melodic black-n-roll metal with some catchy tunes, which many times, do not sound extreme at all, l and yet, sometimes death metal and surely more like ambitious black metal. It is well measured record (genres-wise) by Insanis, check it out.
